The Butterfly Release Ceremony
Meaning - A butterfly release is a visual way to allow the guests of a wedding to each send a mental blessing for the couple. The blessing is supposed to be lifted into the wind by the wings of the butterfly.
Time - About 2 to 3 minutes in length
Supplies – Butterflies and some type of container
Placement - Can be included anywhere within the ceremony but if done earlier in the ceremony sometimes the butterflies linger around the site and make wonderful photo opportunities.

Today, _____ and _____ will release butterflies because according to legend, if anyone desires a wish to come true they must first capture a butterfly and whisper their wish to it. Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal the wish to anyone but the Great Spirits who hear and see all.
In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom, the Great Spirits always grant the wish. So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.
So before they release the butterflies, let us all take a moment to make a silent wish for _____ and _____ so that these butterflies not only carry the hopes and dreams of _____ and _____ into the heaves but let these butterflies also carry your best wishes for the success of their marriage to the Great Spirit.

Everyone please watch as all the emotions that our souls feel at this moment are carried away on the beating wings of these silent butterflies
